Things really are so complicated. Avril Lavigne announced on Wednesday, Sept. 2, that she and her husband, Chad Kroeger, are separating after two years of marriage.
The “Complicated” singer took to Instagram to share the sad news with fans. “It is with heavy heartse that Chad and I announce our separation today,” Lavigne wrote, alongside a smiling snapshot with her estranged husband. “Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we’ve created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support.”
Lavigne, 30, and the Nickelback frontman, 40, tied the knot in July 2013. Us Weekly was first to report that Lavigne and Kroeger were headed for a split last September.
“It’s over,” a source told Us at the time. “He has been going around L.A. telling people that they are divorcing.”
This is the second marital split for Lavigne, who was married to Sum 41 rocker Deryck Whibley from 2006 to 2010. Following her divorce from Whibley, Lavigne dated Brody Jenner for nearly two years before they ended their relationship in January 2012.
Meanwhile, in a strange overlap of timing, the songstress’ ex-husband Whibley got married to his second wife, Ariana Cooper, this past weekend at the Hotel Bel Air in Calif. “It was a classic wedding and a beautiful day,” an insider told Us Weekly of the nuptials. “The bride and groom couldn’t be happier.”
