John Legend and Chrissy Teigen Expecting First Child

A little Legend is on the way.

Musician John Legend and his wife, model Chrissy Teigen, are expecting their first child, they announced on Instagram Monday.

“John and I are so happy to announce that we are pregnant,” she wrote.

“As many of you know, we’ve been trying to have a baby for a while now. It hasn’t been easy, but we kept trying because we can’t wait to bring our first child into the world and grow our family.”

She adds, “We’re so excited that it’s finally happening. Thank you for all your love and well wishes. I look forward to all the belly touching! Xx”

The news comes weeks after Teigen, 29, got candid about the couple’s struggle to conceive.

“John and I were having trouble,” she said during an emotional interview on her new daytime talk show, FABlife.

“We would have had kids five, six years ago if it had happened. But, my gosh, it’s been a process.”

“I wanted to talk about it for so long,” she recently said. “It didn’t feel right to ever tweet, ‘Ugh, doing my IVF shots again.’ It just sounded silly. It definitely was not planned in that episode at all.”

When it came to inquiries about when they’d start a family, Teigen said she understood the impulse to ask, but encouraged people to think twice when broaching the question.

“It’s a sweet question. It comes from a good place, but sometimes you never know what the person [is going through],” she says. “What you really want to say [is], ‘I’m trying and I can’t.’ ”

As she prepares for motherhood, Teigen already has a few firm rules she plans to follow — at least when it comes to childcare.

“No hot nannies, drivers or maids,” she recently said. “It’s an ongoing joke in my house. I do want kids one day, so it’s something that I have to think about.”

As for how many babies will make up their brood? Teigen told PEOPLE she sees a big family in her future.

“I picture us with three or four,” she said in May. “John and I go hard in everything we do. And we like a bit of chaos.”

Following their engagement in 2011, the “All of Me” singer, 36, and Teigen tied the knot during a ceremony in Lake Como, Italy, in 2013. The parents-to-be just celebrated their second wedding anniversary on Sept. 14.
